Reasons Behind Computer Slowness...

slow-computerHonestly, there are few things that are as frustrating as a slow computer. And the frustration that comes from computer slowness is understandable, given that people mostly invest in computer in order to speed things up and increase efficiency.

The major causes of computer slowness fall into three main categories, namely those that have to do with accumulation of clutter in the computer, those that have to do with infection of the computer by malware and those that have to do with hardware deficiencies. A closer look at each of these categories can shed light on how to overcome computer slowness – and make your computer the efficiency-booster it was meant to be.

Starting with the category of reasons behind computer slowness that have to do with accumulation of clutter in a computer, specific examples include programs that one installs one their computer and never gets to use, files that one creates, uses for whatever reasons he/she intends to use them for, and then forgets them in the computer –eating storage space while serving no useful purpose. Yet another form of clutter in a computer occurs in the form of registry entries (keeping in mind that the computer’s registry logs every operation the computer has to perform). Now the thing to do about this category of reasons behind computer slowness is to adopt a discipline of regular computer clean up. You might consider installing a good piece of PC clean up software, and running it regularly – or better still, presetting it to run automatically after so many days, so that you effectively automate the computer clean up task.

Turning to the category of reasons behind computer slowness that have to do with infection of the computer with various forms of malware, we find common culprits here being viruses, spyware and adware. Malware slows down a computer for a number of reasons. For one, all forms of malware are programs in their own rights – and are forever in competition for computing resources with the useful programs you have installed on your computer, especially given that most of these kinds of programs are created to run in the background at all times. Adware and Spyware, besides slowing down your overall computer speed, also tend to slow down your Internet connection as they tend to be connecting (through your Internet connection, of course) to the servers of their masters, telling them what you are doing on your computer so that the servers can serve you with relevant ads in the case of adware. Now the thing to do about these malware is to install a reputable anti-virus program on your computer, ensure that it is always running on the background – and more importantly – ensure that your anti-virus (and anti-spyware) programs is continually updated, as the malware are always evolving to stay ahead of the anti-virus programs.

Examples of reasons behind computer slowness that have to do with hardware deficiencies on the other hand are those that are, for instance, caused by low computer memory. The solution to these always lies down in proper diagnosis of the particular hardware deficiency slowing the computer and taking the necessary corrective action – like installing new memory chips on the memory card slots in your computer’s motherboard expansion slots.

How To Improve Your Computer Speed...

mycomputertooslow4There are many solutions offered to people who complain about the slow speeds of their computers. Type a search entry related to slow computer on any major search engine – and see just how many resources have been developed to address this problem. Perhaps the reason behind there being so many resources about how to improve your computer’s speed is because computer slowness is one of the commonest and most baffling problems. Computers are meant to be fast and to improve efficiency, after all. The problem is, every computer that is used regularly is bound to get slow with time and a computer that regenerates itself to the extent that it doesn’t get slow with time has not yet been discovered.

Of course, a computer that gets slow doesn’t have to be thrown – as most these resources developed to help people with slowing computers will tell you. There are a number of solutions offered to people suffering from computer slowness – from cleaning up the computer to uninstalling redundant programs and to deleting files you no longer use. All these do tend to work – but many people are ever on the lookout for a solution that will take care of their computer speed problems in such a way that they won’t have to think about the problem ever again. And while no such ‘cure-all’ solution yet exists, there are at least a couple of things you can do to improve your computer’s speed almost on a once and for all basis.

The first such thing that you can do is to install a good PC clean up software, and automate its running – so that it cleans up your computer after every so many days under a preset criteria, without your direct intervention. The efficacy of installing such computer clean up software in attempting to improve your computer’s speed once and for all stems from the fact that accumulated clutter on a computer is one of the major reasons behind computer slowness and unless you automate the de-cluttering process, you will sooner or later find yourself having to deal with computer speed issues. You need to install and automate computer clean up software regardless of your computing habits because even the most disciplined computer user who doesn’t install every program they come across and who deletes every file once they are through using it still have to contend with the problem of clutter accumulating on the registry (which logs every operation that the computer performs) and about which there is absolutely nothing you can do, short of regularly cleaning it.

The second thing you can do to improve your computer speed once and for all is to ensure that it always has enough memory for the operations it is subjected to. This is because low computer memory is another major reason behind computer slowness and about which there is really nothing you can do short of upgrading it. And since you never know what will get thrown your computers way in terms of computing power and memory requirements, the thing to do to resolve memory problems would be to fill in the expansion slots meant for memory cards with as many (and as high-capacity) memory cards as it can take – so that you never have to worry about computer slowness resulting from low memory.

Slow Computer Speed...

slow-start_small-copyWindows PCs have not been delivering the requisite quality as terms of quality. When too many applications and programs are installed and removed from the computer, the computer automatically becomes slow. All these programs may not be required by the PC.

There are so many services and functions which are installed in the computer which you are not even aware of.

There are many background programs which keep running within the computer and the computer becomes as slow as a snail and it is not able to perform the functions effectively. You could try and sort out the problem by immediately deleting all the unwanted services. But with so many background programs running, the speed of the computer automatically reduces. With a plethora of services running side by side, it is difficult to figure which ones to shut down and which not to shut down.

Some unneeded window services which can be turned off are:

Adobe Service – Many computers do not have this facility. Even though it is not necessary, just disconnect it if you do not have it.

Alerter: Make sure you disconnect it so that you do not get alerts.

Application Management needs to be set to the manual.

Clipbook: In case you have a clipbook, ensure that you disable this.

Computer Browser: This needs to be disabled in case you are off the network.

Cryptographic Services need to be set to the manual in case you are unsure whether you need it or not.

Distributed Transaction Service needs to be set to the manual

DNS Client needs to set if you are off network

Error Reporting Service: This is an unimportant service and needs to be immediately disconnected since they are very poor with communication and customer service. This service forwards the request to Microsoft, but there is where it ends. There is no response from Microsoft. They do not get back and there is no reply or solution about the problem. Disabling this service also saves a lot of bandwidth.

Quick Switching Compatibility: You need to disconnect this facility if you are the only user of the computer. Individuals who do not use the quick switching feature also need to disable the facility. Similarly, if you logoff and allow other users to operate, then it is not required by you. It is not effective for computer with low memory.

FTP Publishing: This facility can be disabled if FTP is not used.

Help and Support: The facility has to be either set to the manual mode or it has to be turned off in case you do not take the assistance of the help feature. In case you need any help, you could start it once again.
